Last updated: 19 June 2011

Alcina is a sorceress who has fallen in love with the knight Ruggiero and held him captive on her magical island. Bradamante is Ruggiero's fiancΓ©e and has come disguised as her brother to rescue him, but Alcina has cast a spell on Ruggiero to make him believe that 'he' is his love rival. Alcina declares her power over Ruggiero, commanding him to stay with her in this brilliant aria.
