Vira Slywotzky was awarded her bachelor's degree from Yale University and her master's in vocal performance from Mannes College, The New School for Music. Her principal teacher was Beth Roberts.

In 2008/2009 Vira was a Young Artist with Seattle Opera and returns for a second residency next season.

Vira has performed with the Opera Company of the Highlands and with Chautauqua Opera where, for two seasons, in addition to roles on the main stage, she sang cabarets, recitals and concerts with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.

Operatic roles include Nedda (Pagliacci), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Helena (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Micaëla (Carmen), Giorgetta (Il tabarro), Greta Fiorentino (Street Scene) and Rooster (The Cunning Little Vixen).

In 2008 she joined Mirror Visions Ensemble, a vocal trio which performs new and old music in France and the United States. As a solo recitalist she tours with programmes of contemporary American songs as well as traditional art song repertoire. She was also a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

She is the recipient of a 2007 Richard F Gold Career Grant, and was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions last year. In August she will make her debut with Boston Midsummer Opera.

Vira is an avid environmentalist and crafter.
