Those Train Days

By Dean Davies
July 2005,
A digital story from Coleg Sir GΓΆr

"Every day is a new day, hoping to see that special train that was once a pastime for those who are keen on taking the class number on the train. The train spotter wakes up in the morning with hope that he will see his favourite train.

The train spotter arrives with great enthusiasm with his little piece of paper. The weather is very cold; stands at the station gate for a long time; stands for another few hours. The cold breeze passes, touching the fingertips, feeling like ice cubes. The little piece of paper is so cold that it's practically frozen.

The still morning is very quiet as the slow moving trees awaits the long due train. Suddenly - a distinct noise - a train passes by the station at high speed. The train spotter was annoyed. He hoped the train would stop to take the class name of the engine. It passed too quickly.

Still waiting to see the next train engine, the train spotter sat down on a cold seat. A distinct sound. He rose up with his pen and paper, a train stopped. The train spotter noted the train name and class, even a photo! He glanced with excitement, a result after five hours of brass monkey weather.

It's quite amazing how people can stand at a station in almost all weathers just to see trains passing by. It gets more lonely as the night draws in. The station gets quieter and time moves on."
