After a brief stint in the music business Ant and Dec moved into television presenting.

They have fronted many successful shows, from I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here to Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Pop Idol.

Donna Air

Donna Air

Donna continued her acting career starring in The Mummy Returns and The One and Only.

She also moved into presenting, fronting shows such as MTV Select, The Big Breakfast and reality show The Club.

Jill Halfpenny

After playing Nicola in Byker Grove, Jill went on to star in both Coronation Street and Eastenders and won Strictly Come Dancing in 2004.

She also appeared in the Newcastle Theatre Royal's panto two years running. Jill's niece, Chelsea Halfpenny, joined Byker Grove in 2003 as Lucy.

Andrew Hayden-Smith

Andrew Hayden-Smith played Ben

Andrew Hayden-Smith

Andrew starred in Byker Grove for eight years as heart-throb Ben Carter.

He left the series in 2003 when his character was dramatically killed off in a car accident. Andrew went on to work as a presenter on CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

Emma Cleasby

After Byker Grove Emma appeared in many theatre productions.

She starred in the horror film Dog Soldiers and returned to the North East to film TV Series 55 Degrees North.

LyndyAnn played one of the Grove's most well-remembered characters, Spuggie.

She is now a mum, content with life away from the cameras

Byker Grove first aired in 1989.

The series ran for 17 years, 18 series and 344 episodes.

Filming for the final episode completed in Newcastle on Thursday, 24 August 2006.

The show launched the careers of TV favourites Ant and Dec and actresses Jill Halfpenny and Donna Air.

Byker Grove was actually filmed in Benwell, not Byker.

The theme tune for Byker Grove was written and produced by The Kane Gang.

Pop acts spawned from the series included PJ and Duncan AKA, Crush and Point Break.

Ant and Dec reprised their roles as PJ and Duncan for the episode of Geoff's funeral in 2000.
