Doing laundry together can be a fantastic learning opportunity for your little one.
If they say a word or short phrase, repeat what they say and add a word or two. This will show that you’ve understood them and helps them learn to build sentences.

How adding words helps children to learn
It helps them to:
- Know they have shared their ideas with you
- Learn new words
- Learn how to make their sentences longer
When your little one is able to name items of clothing, you might like to add words to build phrases. You could say things like 'daddy's jumper', which helps them understand the concept of belonging, as well as describing the items with phrases like 'fluffy jumper'.
If they don't say a word quite right, don't correct them, just repeat it back to them as it should sound.
