Crawl, crawl, crawl. It’s not the simplest way to get about, but when it comes to solo travel, it’s most babies’ only option! Luckily for them, at around nine to 12 months, most babies will try to walk. It’s a lot harder than it looks. On average, babies fall down about 32 times an hour! But it’s all worth it. Walking opens up your little one’s world - and actually uses much less energy than crawling!And would you believe, walking also helps them learn language!
Crawling babies see a whole lot of floor and not much else. But when they’re walking, they can look around at faces, and objects. Suddenly they’ve got a lot more to learn about. And babies LOVE to learn! Studies show that adults talk more to babies who walk. Walking babies can pick things up that interest them, and carry them over to you, encouraging you to talk to them more, using new words and sentences.
It also means that babies get to be the first to start a conversation, which is very important to their learning.When your baby looks ready, you can help them learn to walk by gently holding their hands to help them stand. And when they do start to walk, or toddle, just let them explore their new world. Let them show you what they’re interested in, and don’t forget to talk to them about everything they discover.
