For health visiting teams using the Early Language Identification Measure and Intervention (ELIM-I), Newcastle University have developed new resources to support the identification of children's speech, language and communication needs, and to provide tailored support to families. ELIM-I is designed for use with all children attending their 2-2 ½ year Healthy Child Review.

As part of the intervention, 鶹Լ Tiny Happy People have worked with Newcastle University to develop a set of films to be used in conjunction with

Newcastle University ELIM-I resources

Newcastle University's resources have been co-produced with practitioners and parents to support health visiting practice.

On the practitioners may find:

  • ELIM-I intervention resources
  • Guidance handbooks
  • Training videos for practitioners
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Guidance about printing the resources for use in practice
  • Development reports and publications

The team behind ELIM-I also invites practitioners to join an ‘ELIM-I Community of Practice’ so they can share further ELIM-I work and hear about how practitioners are using the ELIM-I. Practitioners can sign up to this via the

Films to support ELIM-I

To support practitioners to deliver ELIM-I with families, we have developed a suite of videos to be used alongside

They demonstrate nine tips to parents/carers to help them to become 'super communicators' with their children.

The nine tips are:

Each of the tips has a number of different supporting videos that model the tip being used by parents/carers across different daily routines with their child. This helps parents/carers to understand the target behaviour and how they might apply the behaviour across different contexts.

The videos may be used with parents/carers across multiple sessions, or practitioners may choose to share a couple of them with parents/carers in one session to support understanding.
