Watch again: Why don't our children love to read?

Reading for pleasure is widely acknowledged to be great for cognitive development and mental wellbeing, and is also closely associated with higher levels of reading skills.

However, in a 2016 international study of reading literacy, only 35% of 10-year-olds in England and 39% of 10-year-olds in Northern Ireland report that they like reading 'very much', falling behind countries like Russia (46%), Ireland (46%), New Zealand (44%), and Australia (43%).
