We mark Remembrance Day 2023 in this thought-provoking literacy Live Lesson for primary schools.

What is Remembrance Day?

More than 100 years after the end of World War One, we ask 'Why do we still remember?' and explore the significance of Remembrance Day through poetry and real-life accounts from veterans.

From Imperial War Museum North in Manchester, Newsround's Shanequa Paris and poet Tomfoolery delve into what Remembrance Day is, who we remember and why.

How to get involved:

Download resources to accompany the Live Lesson here:

Poet and former Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho shares techniques and poetic devices, and children will come away inspired to write their own poems and reflective pieces.

Former Royal Marines Commando and Invictus Games Medallist JJ Chalmers also answers questions from children about his own experience of serving in the armed forces.
