Teacher Notes

Students could be asked to identify the instances of conflict in this clip.

They could explore the causes of the conflict and how Joe felt during this time.

Challenge students to use this clip to discuss ways to deal with and resolve conflict in school, and at home.

Students could be organised into groups and each assigned one of these conflict situations to explore in greater detail.

Most students are likely to be on Joe’s side in each of these conflicts and will have a good understanding of how he felt, but they should also explore the conflict from the other person’s point of view by stepping into their shoes.

What are their reasons behind the argument? How are they feeling?

Students could then note the need to work together when resolving conflict.

They could brainstorm solutions from both points of view.

Students could then role-play each of these conflict situations but this time try to find a resolution.

Alternatively, students could explore how they can find support in their own school if they are experiencing problems at home.

Students could identify members of staff whom they can talk to, and the type of support that could be offered.

Students could design posters to encourage others to talk to a teacher if they experiencing any kinds of problems.

This clip will be relevant for teaching PSHE and Modern Studies at KS2 in England and Northern Ireland, PSE at KS2 in Wales and First Level and Second Level in Scotland.
