Loot boxes in gaming

If you’ve been gaming online for a while, you will probably have been tempted by loot boxes. They’re the shiny treasure chests that could contain tools to help you level up or skins to make your character look cool. However, they often take a lot of hard work in the game or real money to unlock.

The problem with loot boxes is that while you can pay for them with real money, you don’t always know what you’ll find in them.

You could see this as a fun extra element to the game, where opening the box to find out what's inside is quite exciting. But when there's real money involved, it can be quite dangerous as it could lead to more and more spending if you aren't careful.

If you're ever unsure about whether something might cost real money, it's best not to say 'yes' unless you have the permission of the person paying the bill.
