Bestselling and award-winning author, Elle McNicoll, has shared her advice for writing the best story you can for this year's 500 Words competition.

Elle McNicoll first rose to prominence for her children's novel, A Kind of Spark, which follows the story of Addie and her quest to hold a memorial for witches in her Scottish town. The book has since been adapted into the popular C鶹Լ programme of the same name.

A Kind of Spark went on to win the Blue Peter Book award in 2020.

Using her own experience when writing her books, Elle has sat down with us to share her advice for 7-11 year olds who want to write stories.

Don’t forget, entries for 500 Words are open between Tuesday 24 September and 9pm on Friday 8 November 2024.
