How the new Sustainable Supply Chain Code of Conduct affects Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Suppliers

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s objective is to put social, environmental and economic sustainability at the heart of how and what we buy.

Updated: 14 November 2024

Does the code apply to all suppliers?

The code applies to all existing and new suppliers, other than the independent production companies we work with where we have a separate engagement strategy in place. This is the first phase of our launch and we know it will take time to communicate our requirements with our whole supply chain. All suppliers are expected to comply with the minimum standards set out in the document and our next step is to start to incorporate this into contracts.

What about the existing Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ policies?

All of our existing policies for our suppliers (such as Ethical Trade) still currently apply and are referenced in the Code of Conduct. The code brings together all our existing requirements of our supply chain to one document to make it easier for our suppliers to understand our expectations.

Is this a reasonable expectation of (especially smaller) suppliers?

We know we have a huge variety of suppliers in our supply chain and are especially mindful of the key role small businesses play. When developing our Code of Conduct we gathered feedback from suppliers of all sizes, including Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs). We did this to try to ensure the minimum standards don't create unforeseen barriers to entry. We know all suppliers are at different stages in the sustainability maturity journey, and we absolutely want to work with suppliers to support them in their maturing.

From an environment perspective, we're also exploring an engagement with the Broadway Initiative who are the UK branch of the SME climate hub. This is an organisation who develop climate resources and toolkits specifically focused on small businesses in the UK.
