Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds

The five piece hail from various parts of Suffolk - "Two of us live in Woodbridge and the other three are just up the A12 near Saxmundham. One of them is from Framlingham, the city of love," singers Rory and Charlie told Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Suffolk.

As on stage, Rory and Charlie shared vocal duties when we chatted on the phone. The conversation was interesting and lively, but with sentences often being started by one member and finished by the other it soon became difficult to put a name to the voice.

"We started off just playing friends' house parties and didn't really start taking it seriously until May/June 2007. We then started to move towards London, and playing Norwich."

Ipswich indie scene

Along with the desire to spread their wings, they say a lack of options in Suffolk was the motivation behind them becoming regulars in Norfolk.

"It's quite difficult as the indie scene in Ipswich has died down quite a bit recently. I don't think it's even a scene at the moment.

"There's one alright venue - The Steamboat - which we love playing. But there's not really a following for live music in Ipswich at all.

"We haven't really focused on Ipswich for a long enough period of time, partly because the lack of an indie scene. We do have a good fanbase there though and a lot of people message us on MySpace.

"The Drum and Monkey did well for a bit - getting some really good bands. We played a few gigs there and they got some really good bands in.

"But then the roof fell in and it's now a pool bar, literally."

Maida Vale

Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq was amongst the first to pick up on the band's potential and invited Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds to record a session at the Maida Vale studios in 2008.

Electric Picture Palace, Southwold

2008 started out in an equally exciting fashion, joining the hotly tipped Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong on tour.

"We played a show with them in Camden and they really liked us and asked if we'd join their tour. It's great - there's more and more people singing along as we go around the country.

"We've just filmed our video and the single's coming out - hopefully a headline tour will follow."

The debut single Slow Kids, was released on Tired and Lonesome Records on 10 March 2008.

"It's a song about us. It's not in any way derogatory - it's celebrating ourselves more than anything. Us and the people who come to our shows."

Moving on up in 2009

A name-change to The Cheek, another appearance at Suffolk's Latitude Festival and more gigging meant the band secured a major contract with A&M Records. The debut album, which was recorded in Belgium, is awaiting a release date.
