Wipeout

Work has just begun at Pleasurewood Hills in Lowestoft on what's being described as one of the most exciting rides in the UK - a roller coaster that will set the benchmark as being the tallest, fastest and most extreme ride in East Anglia.

The ride, which is called Wipeout, will take 15 weeks to build and cost more than one million pounds. It's claimed it'll use some of the most up to date and ecological methods known to the construction industry.

In February 2007, the work started with the levelling of the site. Giant steel foundation screws are then to be drilled into the earth to anchor the ride's frame.Μύ It's believed that this is the first time this innovative technique has been used in the construction of a roller coaster in the UK.

The adrenalin will be pumping through the veins of the heartiest thrill seeker at the prospect of riding Wipeout.Μύ It stands over 116 feet tall and can carry 760 passengers per hour along the 900 feet of twisted steel at speeds touching almost 50 mph.

Yves Delhommeau, who's the general manager at Pleasurewood Hills says there's a sting in the tail as well: "Visitors will be launched through three inversions pulling over five G's and then have to return through the loops backwards".

The addition to the park is part of a multi-million pound redevelopment program at Pleasurewood since it was taken over two years ago by French organisation Compagnie Des Alpes.

"Since purchasing the park we've invested more than Β£3 million improving the quality of the facilities and developing the new maritime theme for our visitors to enjoy," added Mr Delhommeau.

"Wipeout will be the first substantial new ride we've added and it is part of an ambitious long-term development plan to bring some exciting new rides and attractions to Pleasurewood Hills."

The ride is due to open in May 2007.Μύ Pleasurewood Hills is just north of Lowestoft at Corton.
