Blyth Spartans have postponed their next two home games because they do not meet the legal requirements to stage them.

Their Northern Premier League Premier Division matches against Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday and FC United of Manchester on Tuesday will be played at a later date.

Blyth are bottom of the league with nine points from 12 games.

Meanwhile, chairman Irfan Liaquat has said he is prepared to sell the club after fans' protests about how it is being run.

In, the Northern Premier League said it had concerns over "certain operational requirements" following resignations at the Northumberland club.

After discussions with Spartans and the local authority, it was decided there was no option but to postpone the two fixtures.

This is the latest episode in a difficult period for the club following Liaquat's takeover in February.

Spartans were relegated from National League North last season and then appointed former Newcastle United and Peru midfielder Nolberto Solano as manager.

But he failed to win any of his first five games and resigned, leaving David Stockdale in charge.

Fans boycotted the FA Trophy defeat by Stockton Town in the last match at Croft Park in protest at Liaquat's running of the club.
