Connah's Quay Nomads have appointed Billy Paynter as their new head coach on a two-year contract.

The 40-year-old made more than 500 senior appearances as a player, scoring 131 goals for clubs such as Port Vale, Leeds United and Swindon Town.

In 2023, Paynter was named manager of Runcorn Linnets in the Northern Premier League Division One West, and led them to a second-place finish in his first season in charge.

The former striker has also worked as the academy coach at Everton and as Port Vale's assistant manager.

"I'm really excited," said Paynter.

"It's been a crazy 48-72 hours, and I'm delighted to be here at such a massive club and I look forward to my first game against Flint.

"I like to challenge myself as a manager, this club has that community feel and it is an opportunity to progress with the attraction of European football as well."

Nomads take on Flint in the Cymru Premier on Monday, 26 August.
