Debutant Marcel Oakley scored 15 minutes from time as Birmingham beat League Two side Colchester United.

The 18-year-old right-back's deflected shot beat Shamal George to secure his side a place in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Riley McGree came close to scoring Birmingham's second five minutes later, but his shot was palmed away.
