Hearts again struggled in front of goal

Hearts edged closer to the Scottish Championship title despite turning in another uninspiring display in a goalless draw at Arbroath.

Robbie Neilson's side - who are 16 points clear - need three wins to guarantee an immediate return to the top-flight.

But despite stretching their unbeaten run to nine matches, they again struggled to create chances.

The draw moves Arbroath five points clear of bottom side Alloa Athletic.

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "We are playing the best team in the league and I don't think they tested our goalkeeper.

"I thought I had three players coming in yesterday from Championship in England but only found out at half eleven last night we can only bring in domestic loans. I had agreed terms and everything."

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson: "That was a tough one for us. The pitch was really bobbly and you couldn't play any football on it. I think there were a few shanks from both teams.

"It's another point towards the title with Dunfermline losing and Raith drawing. Now we are 16 points clear with six [games] to go."
