Wales international Declan John has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the rest of the season from Swansea City.

Left-back John, 25, has not played for Swansea since December 2019 and sees his contract at the Championship club expire this summer.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland but failed to make an appearance for the Black Cats.

"The main thing for me is to just come here and play," John told Bolton's club website.

"I'm at an age now where I just need to be playing two games a week, three games a week, it doesn't matter - I just need to be playing.

"It's good to be back around a first-team environment. I've been training with the under-23s at Swansea and haven't had much game-time, but I'm looking forward to being here and getting involved in some games."

John, who has seven Wales caps, previously played in the Premier League, for Cardiff City, and was at Rangers before joining Swansea in 2018.

He has made only 18 appearances during a disappointing Liberty Stadium spell.

John joins a Bolton side who are currently 16th in League Two, and could make his debut in their game against Exeter on Tuesday, 12 January.
