Burton Albion 1-2 Blackpool

  • Published

Jerry Yates scored his first goals for Blackpool to secure victory at struggling Burton Albion.

The former Swindon striker, who moved to Bloomfield Road for an undisclosed fee in the closed season, found space in the area to slot home his first after a good ball from Sullay Kaikai.

Yates struck the post after 33 minutes as Blackpool tried hard to secure just their third league win of the season.

But the Brewers hit back when Daniel Gretarsson turned the ball into his own net from close range after a good run and cross from Charles Vernam.

Yates, who scored 13 times in League Two as Swindon won the fourth tier title last season, sealed the points in the final 15 minutes as he converted from the penalty spot after John-Joe O'Toole was adjudged to have pulled down Marvin Ekpiteta in the box.

The loss leaves Burton second-from-bottom of League One while Blackpool move up to 16th place, four points above the relegation zone and their opponents.
