Inverness Caledonian Thistle consolidated second place in the Scottish Championship by beating second-bottom Queen of the South.

James Vincent headed Inverness in front on the half-hour mark.

James Keatings' free-kick added a second for the hosts but Callum Semple nodded a goal back for the visitors.

Miles Storey struck a third for Caley Thistle late on and John Robertson's side hold a four-point advantage over Dundee.

Queen of the South are two points above Partick Thistle, who have played a game fewer.

Inverness also have a game in hand and are 14 points behind leaders Dundee United, who have eight league games left.

The sides finishing third and fourth will meet over two legs in the Premiership play-off quarter-final with the winner taking on the league's runners-up in the semi-final.

The winner of the second tie will then face the second bottom team in the top flight for a place in next season's Premiership.
