The event which was first held in 1921, has a huge range of activities, demonstrations and entertainment and attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. An added talking point is that this is the first show since the Forest was awarded National Park status.

The show brings together traditional country pursuits, new exhibitions and demonstrations and celebrates rural life. Main events this year include the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines, Bobb Hogg's Sheepdog Display and the Shetland Pony Grand National.

Show jumping is another prominent feature at the show with three days of competitive classes. Other equestrian events include heavy horses, miniature horses and horse and pony classes.

Traditional country skills

There is a full range of equestrian classes, livestock competitions (pigs, cattle and sheep) plus a poultry section, rabbits, cage birds, and honey bees.

Countryside features and woodland activities include thatching, lumberjack sports, chain saw sculpture and demonstrations of modern forestry techniques.

There's also the chance to find out everything you need to know about bees and honey, pole-climbing, or you can get up close and personal with four-legged and feathered friends in the show farm and New Forest corner.

A shuttle bus service is available from Brockenhurst station to the Showground in addition to the regular routes from Lymington Quay.

It's thought the show generates more than Β£5 million over the three days for exhibitors and surrounding hotels, shops, restaurants and camp sites.
