FACTS
tiny

First performed in 1968, Joseph was expanded and re-opened at the London Palladium in 1991, going on to break box office records.

The production starring Jason Donovan ran for two hours was seen by over 2 million people during its 2 and a half year run.

There are nearly 500 school or amateur productions each year in the UK, and over 750 in the US & Canada, together with other productions in Australia, Germany, South Africa, and various other territories world wide.

For all the splendour of the major productions, Joseph has never betrayed it’s roots as a musical written for schools. It is currently estimated that the show has been performed in nearly 15,000 schools or local theatres, involving over 500,000 performers of all ages, and with an audience in excess of 8 million people.

My name is Davey Anscombe from Park Community School. This year the school is staging a produciton of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - and I play one of the narrators.

I play the Pharoah and apparently I got to wear platforms!

At the beginning of November 2003 the cast and staff went to London to see a professional production of the show.

I wanted to find out what they were expecting and if it could help them with their roles in Joseph.

I spoke to Holly who plays the Butler in our production. "I'm very very excited because I heard that Steven Gately is in it and I fancy the pants off him", she said.

Chris Pernell who plays one of the brothers said: "I've never seen a main production in London before and I think it'll be very good."

Listen to the Joseph report

The show was phenomenal - with a spectacular array of lighting, sound and the actors were brilliant.

I spoke to our own Joseph, 15 year old Simon after the show. "I thought it was absolutely brilliant, I loved every single bit of it", he said.

It was a great day. We all learnt loads about the show and got some tips on how to play our parts - and it was a chance for me to make some
radio.

Nice Narrator
Hi, my name is Natasha Butcher from Park Community School, and I play one of the brothers.

As soon as the show had finished we headed out to the stage door to catch some of the actors. Vivien Carlisle plays one of the narrators.

Park Community School's production of Joseph
See - you were good but we're better.

She said: "I love it - it's hard work but if you stick at it it's good fun - we have lots of rehearsals."

And what about the audience? I spoke to another pupil Darren Pernell after the show. "I can still remember it word for word", he said.

"I thought it was absolutley brilliant. I thought the narrator was so nice - so nice that I got her signature!"

As for me I thought the whole day and the show was brilliant. As for helping us with our characters and our production - they were good but we'll do better!
