tiny Craig David popped in to the Chris Moyles show being broadcast from the studios at Broadcasting House in Southampton, after being picked up by Aled in the 50 foot 'Saviour of Breakfast Radio' billboard lorry.

Admittedly they did get a bit lost on the way back to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. But for Craig, it was a welcome return to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent studios:"This reminds me of when came I down here a long time ago to record song to keep racism out of football. The studios haven't changed a bit in six or seven years!"

Craig is back in the area to work on his third album, with his longtime friend and former Artful Dodger star, Mark Hill: "I've locked myself into the studio and I'm not trying to make it sound any particular way - I just wanted it to be what it is. I don't want to have any set ideas, just to go in and work with Mark is great - just coming up with ideas and working with it."

It's been a hectic six months for the 22 year old who has just completed a world tour which took in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South Africa and Australia.

"It was bizarre going to all these places where I'd only ever been on holiday - like Japan and Australia and when I came off the plane, the fans were fantastic."

Despite the globetrotting, Craig says he still sees Southampton as home: "I'm proud of that. There's always times when you look back and I remember getting ticked off at school for not doing homework or for being late when I was at City College - and now it's 'Oh Craig was an amazing student - and his time keeping was excellent'... They've even got a picture of me in City College now. But Southampton is a city that people sometimes overlook and there's so many talented people here - I've been lucky to be a part of it."

Craig's Rose Bowl gig in October
His homecoming gig last October was something that still sticks in Craig's mind: "It was the first time I'd been to the Rose Bowl - it was great. I loved getting it all stripped back acoustically - if it stands up acoustically, it's a great song."

He's even got a view on the biggest issue in Southampton at the moment - who will be the new Saints boss: "I haven't got as much hostility as a lot of people have shown towards Glenn Hoddle. Whoever is going to come down and turn the team around is going to be alright. The fans are important. Alex Ferguson would be good. He could come down and turn the whole team around - he seems to have done pretty well for Manchester United. That's maybe a long shot!"
