The Westfield Mining Disaster

The Westfield Mining Disaster's music has been described as 'sparkly guitar pop with a dark, alt-country twist'. It's also been called far worse, but this is a respectable website!

Who are The Westfield Mining Disaster?

Paul Towler on vocals and guitar; Geoff Malkin on guitar and backing vocals; Stew Black on bass; and Mike Barker on drums.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Westfield

When did you form?

In 2006

How did you get together?

We all worked in a drive-through burger bar. In fact, we still do.

We've all been in previous bands: The Haywains, Cruiser, The Casswells and More Specials to name just a few, but it was flipping those flippin' burgers that brought us all together.

Yes, we're still poor impoverished musicians, stuck somewhere between transit-van stardom and flame-grilled Quarter Pounders.

How would you describe your music?

The band's music has been described as 'sparkly guitar pop with a dark, alt-country twist'. It's also been called far worse, but this is a respectable website.

How did the band get its name?

Strangely enough, the band was named after the infamous Westfield mining disaster.

Who are your musical influences?

We are particularly inspired by the music of Velvet Underground, Orange Juice, The Go-Betweens and Scott Walker.

However, influences come from far and wide, not just music.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Wembley. OK, so that's the Dog & Duck in Wembley, but it still counts doesn't it?

Where would you most like to play?

We hear there's a new place just up the road from the Dog & Duck in Wembley.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

Hey, isn't flipping burgers interesting enough?
