Dicentra

Find out more about Dicentra - they play a range of musical styles from Iron Maiden-style metal to Pink Floyd-style prog.

Who are Dicentra?

John on vocals and guitars; Jack on guitars; Naif on bass guitars; and Hatty Carman on drums.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Near Wellington

When did you form?

At Uffculme School and Richard Huish College.

How did you get together?

Jack, Naif and John started by jamming in the music huts at Uffculme School - they quickly got together a repertoire of covers, mainly from the '70s/'80s.

Dicentra

After a suggestion from John Golden of Barndoor Records, we started writing our own songs.

We have now recorded four of our own songs and are constantly pushing the boundaries and writing more and more.

How would you describe your music?

We play a range of musical styles from Iron Maiden-style metal to Pink Floyd-style prog - we're slowly melding them together to form our own very distinctive and individual style.

How did the band get its name?

Our singer's mum was doing a course in horticulture and she gave us a list of flower names - we thought this was the coolest, so yes we are named after a flower.

Who are your musical influences?

Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pantera, New York Dolls and many more...

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Probably the Battle of the Bands because the tension was so immense, but as soon as we got up on stage it was relaxed and we all felt much more at home.

It was also the first time we played one of our songs and it was a brilliant feeling.

Where would you most like to play?

WEMBLEY ARENA! But probably, more seriously, a cool, free festival.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We're not really that interesting.
