Two Minute Hour

Meet Two Minute Hour from Minehead - they play a bit of rock, mixed with a bit of metal, mixed with a bit of punk, mixed with a bit of funk.

Who are Two Minute Hour?

Jason Coles on vocals and bass guitar; Rob Quantick on drums; and Steve Quantick on vocals and lead guitar.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Minehead

Two Minute Hour

When did you form?

In summer 2001 (ish)

How did you get together?

We started in 2001 and the original line up was: Jas - Vocals and Guitar, Jamie - Vocals and Bass and Steve on drums and we called ourselves Stalefish.

After a year we started playing around with the idea of having two guitarists and one bassist with no drummer because Steve became a good guitarist. After about a year of doing this we recruited Rob on drums changed our name to Two Minute Hour and made several demos which only exist on tapes that were recorded on a cheap tape recorder.

After a few small gigs Rob and the rest of the band parted company because of differing time schedules and also the age gap. After that Jas, Jamie and Steve decided to continue with Jas taking over on drums while they recorded the first demo version of Take 'Em Out on a four track cassette recorder, which was then put onto CD by Roger at Bulrush Studios.

Soon after recording Jamie left the band due to other commitments and so Jas and Steve were left to find a new drummer. After many emails and no-shows we got a message from Katie who played her first gig with the band at the Tropiquaria Battle of the Bands.

In December 2006 we recorded the Two Minute Hour EP which was self released in January 2007. Katie stayed in the band for a year and played her last gig with the band at the 2007 Tropiquaria Battle of the Bands.

So after thinking about recording with just Jas and Steve doing all the drum parts, we practised with Rob again and it just seemed to click with old songs sounding better than ever and new tracks sounding amazing and so Rob is now our full time drummer!

Two Minute Hour

How would you describe your music?

Punk metal with a bit of funk.

In April 2008 we recorded Infinity Ends Tomorrow, our first full album. From the fabulous muted intro of Not A New World to the Stampin Ground-esque ending of Dark, Infinity Ends Tomorrow mixes Velvet Revolver meets Stone Sour/Slipknot style shedded guitars, jazz funk and Primus influenced bass lines and pounding drum beats with joint vocals that have a hint of Placebo meets the aggressive side of Dave Grohl.

Two Minute Hour

To me a lot of these songs are very brave arrangements in a genre that practically dictates how it should and should not sound - but here the music body and the performance is a knock out, proving in music, laws are made to be broken---but only by the truly gifted, which this band is!

How did the band gets its name?

It is basically about how time passes when you are with different people.

For example, if you are with someone you really like/enjoy being with then an hour can pass in what seems like two minutes, whereas if you are with people who you don't get along or find annoying then two minutes can seem like an hour.

Who are your musical influences?

There are so many bands but I suppose to narrow it down a little the three main bands we usually put for this question are Rage Against the Machine, Deftones and The Offspring.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Watchet Festival Battle of the Bands, we didn't win in the end but we had a great night and so did the crowd - video on youtube!

Where would you most like to play?

Anywhere we can really, but Reading/Leeds Festivals or the Download Festival would be dream gigs, even just on the smaller stages.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We came up with the name of the band while eating a mega breakfast in Tesco's cafe in Minehead, which has now closed.
