Hello Coma
Hello Coma met at university

Hello Coma

Meet Hello Coma from Bath - they're just your normal toast-obsessing, Arsenal-supporting, Harry Potter-loving dark pop band, who would most like to play under the sea!

Who are Hello Coma?

Jemima Bullock on vocals, guitars, and songwriting; Sam Cross on drums; Manny Spring on keys and synths; and Bernie Valentine on bass.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Bath

When did you form?

In 2003

How did you get together?

We met at university and formed as an outlet for Jemima's creative songwriting.

How would you describe your music?

It's dark pop music with hints of folk and electronica. It's about relationships, regret and fears. It's music that everybody can relate to, and music that everybody needs.

How did the band gets its name?

Many people just accept their life as a coma. They sleep through it, unwilling to change anything or challenge themselves.

Who are your musical influences?

Folk music like Nick Drake and Cara Dillon; there's definitely a Bristolian Massive Attack vibe.

There is a deep sense of expression and experimentalism that is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, and certainly a little spicy hot rock.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

The band received a tremendous reception at the Battle of the Bands 2005 at Moles in Bath. We've also done fantastic shows at the Bristol Louisiana.

Where would you most like to play?

Under the sea

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

Jemima is a shoe obsessive and owns 334 pairs of shoes. She also is a toast obsessive - pesto on toast, olive oil on toast, chopped tomato on toast, aubergine on toast.

Samuel used to support Nottingham Forest, but changed to Arsenal... boo!

Manny owns a really big pepper grinder.

Bernie once dreamt he bought the new Harry Potter book, but when he awoke, he was very upset to learn he still had months and months to wait for it!

Rowan Clarke
Hello Coma are absolutely awesome. Jemima's vocals are haunting and her songs are beautifully melodic. If you get the chance to see them, do. And you better do it quick - this band are going to hit the big time, and there gigs will soon sell out quicker than Madonna's.

Gig Allo
Really haunting voice - very refined - better than Stevie Nicks! Would like to see songwriting move to less dramatic ie more like REM ballads

tom
