Somerset Sounds - Artists

Contact
Andy, Dan and Chris are Contact

Contact

Contact, from Yeovil, loved rocking the stage at Rockfest 2005 in Taunton. They're also pleased as punch that the name of their band no longer sounds like a carpet store!

Who are Contact?

Chris Howell on lead guitar and vocals, Andy Clutterbuck on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Dan Board on drums.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Yeovil.

When did you form?

In the winter of 2003.

How did you get together?

Contact
Contact rocking out on stage at Rockfest 2005

We had been good friends for a while and just decided that making up a band might be fun... so we did.

How would you describe your music?

A rock act with our eyes fixed firmly into a baroque world of distortion, emotion and guitar harmonics.

How did the band gets its name?

We used to be called Allied Spirits, but after much discussion we changed it to Contact which is the name of one of our songs.

Who are your musical influences?

The style of our music has been influenced by Radiohead and Muse, but we have also taken influence from classical music and combined it with rock to make our own new style.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Contact
Contact would love to play at Glasto

Our most memorable gig has to be Rockfest 2005 at Richard Huish College where we played to our biggest crowd yet.

Although the overall experience was very good, and the band was received well, the sound levels were a bit dodgy as the guitar was too quiet.

Where would you most like to play?

We would most like to play at Glastonbury because we have all grown up in the local area.

After visiting the festival a few times, we have found that the atmosphere is amazing. It would be a fantastic opportunity to get a gig there!

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We used to be called Allied Spirits, but after a while it came to us that it sounded much like Allied Carpets, so we changed it!

As a friend of the group, I've been priviledged enough to be at a few of their band practises and i can honestly say they are defintely the next big thing...and also that rock fest did them little credit due to the rubbish sound, very dissappointing. but don't you worry they will be playing a gig near you soon, no doubt about it!! xx p.s. no bias i promise
