Robert Milton, Chairman of Oswestry Rural Parish Council arranged a day where two local schools could get involved in planting trees,Μύ learn more about the environment and have a splendid day out in some beautiful countryside.

It was one of those beautiful autumnal days that happen occasionally in November – just right for taking a party of children out into the parkland and letting them dig holes, hear stories and run about!

The children from Our Lady's & St Oswald's Catholic School in Oswestry went out to the Llanforda Estate where they met Shaun Burkey from the Countryside Service and Helen East, a local storyteller.ΜύAs well as the practicalities - helping with digging, and deciding where to plant the trees - the children were able to listen to stories about the history of the estate, as well as myths and legends about the trees from Helen.

This was repeated in the afternoon with a second school, Trefonnen Primary School, who took part in tree-planting at Woodhill.

Some 26 trees were planted in time for National Tree Week, which runs from 26 November to 2 December.

Robert Milton said: "The day was marvellous - local children being involved in the local environment and learning more about trees in the landscape."
