If you have any queries relating to this Standard then you should contact the Safety Advice Line.

What Can Go Wrong?

  • Energy management if not carried out correctly can result in excessive energy use, environmental emissions and cost.
  • The use of energy in medium sized enterprises such as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is controlled by numerous pieces of environmental legislation which must be complied with.

Legal/Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Requirements

  • Energy use in an organisation the size of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is covered by both the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and the UK Carbon Reduction Commitment. Both pieces of legislation are designed to drive down energy use.

Control Measures

Energy Management:

  • Energy use at all Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ managed premises must be monitored through an energy bureau.
  • Exception reporting with appropriate investigation should take place for significant anomalies in energy use.

Carbon Reduction:

  • Relevant premises must be registered under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and credits bought to cover emissions.
  • The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ as a group must be registered under the Carbon Reduction Commitment and sufficient allowances bought for group emissions.

This is not an exhaustive list; additional controls may be required and there may be more risks to consider.

Division Specific Issues

Studios and Studioworks:

  • Energy consumption in non-Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ premises must be monitored and data supplied back to the group for purposes of the annual CRC submission.
