Abstract

The field strengths of the vertical and horizontal components of the vision signal on 61.75 mc/s from Sutton Coldfield were recorded at Kingswood Warren. The experiment provided information on the improvement that could be expected in an area which would be subjected to interference from a co-channel station if it used a different polarisation from the local station. The ratio of the field-strength of the vertical component to the field-strength of the horizontal component of Sutton Coldfield was at least 12 dB throughout the period, showing that an area subject to interference would be substantially reduced by the use of opposite polarisation by transmitters sharing channels.
