Abstract

This report describes some investigations into certain of the less obvious transient phenomena in loudspeakers reproduction, together with what is thought to be an instructive method of representing the total response of the radiating system. The latter is illustrated by examples of actual loudspeaker characteristics taken by a method which is described in some detail.

It was not originally intended to issue a report on this work until a number of refinements had been introduced into the measuring equipment and a considerable amount of data collected and analysed. With the outbreak of war, however, research on the subject had to be abandoned, and it is thought that the information collected up to that time may be sufficient interest to justify its presentation in a necessarily incomplete form. It is in any case a record of the work done.
