Minimising background noise on Phillips-Miller recording

Report 1942-11

Published: 1 January 1942

Abstract

The peak amplitude recorded on the film should be .0125" and the film track should be measured to ensure that this amplitude is cut at 1 KC when the modulation meter reads 100%. A new adjustment of the "noiseless" control is recommended, i.e. 17.5 mA at zero signal and 0 mA at 80% modulation with no re-adjustment at zero signal. The possibility of improving the operation of the "noiseless" control is indicated.
