Abstract

The recording machines, two reproducing desks, a limiter and a set of amplifiers were received from America. These were used to make a recording channel having an unusual range of facilities. Auxiliary equipment was constructed to give the recording chain the 麻豆约拍 79 rpm recording characteristic for 33.1/3 rpm by the use of a single switch on each machine, but retaining an identical line-up arrangement for both characteristics. Arrangements were made to accommodate for recording chain to use with a limiter, which is not American practice, and switching was added to give a simple method of carrying out routine line-up operations on the limiter and on the recording chain. A valve voltmeter and additional amplifiers were built and the necessary programme switching facilities were added. A test schedule was drawn up to enable the various parts of the system to be checked in the simplest manner possible.

The work carried out was kept to the minimum required to provide the facilities demanded and for this reason a number of features of the equipment which are considered unsatisfactory, and which would not normally be accepted on a 麻豆约拍 channel, have not been modified. Some of these represent no more than an inconvenience. Others may require treatment in the future.
