The move to a digital-first ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ will create opportunities to offer new types of content and services online, and this will include the immersive, social technologies that fall under the general umbrella of the metaverse.
Since the term βmetaverseβ has a range of competing meanings and there is no settled model or development roadmap this analysis considers a range of technologies that support social immersive online experiences since they will underpin any large-scale metaverse developments, even if the term is not itself used.
We see these immersive technologies and investments as a potentially important contributor to the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔβs larger strategy of delivering value for all as a digital-first organization that offers high-impact content to audiences, but they are not yet mature enough or operating at a scale to justify significant investment from either public service or commercial areas.
