How can MPs be made more responsiveÌý and accountable to constituents

Almost certainly two months from now,Ìýa new government will have just been elected, the newspapers will be full of photographs of victorious MPs, smiling and waving outside the Houses of Parliament. Whatever the result, a huge number of those elected will be entering the House of Commons for the first time. But just how accountable will they be to the people who voted for them?
Once MPs win, how much attention are they then obliged to pay to their constituents? Should they be subject to recall if they’re not up to the job should they be required to attend regular public meetings in their constituencies to explain their work should people have the power to trigger parliamentary debates if they get sufficient numbers of signatures on a petition? Or perhaps you take the view that we’re rushing to change something that isn’t as broken as we’re led to believe.
Guests: Lord Ashdown; Matthew Parris, Tim Green, Democracy Club Ìý
