Bringing art and theatre to a traditional fairground ride

Although this is traditionally the time of year when the most exciting and innovative theatre can be seen at the Edinburgh Festival there is certainly at least one exception to be found at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, East London.

Here twenty people at a time can take a ten minute ride on Carnesky's Ghost Train - a fairground ride, art installation and theatre venue combined. Olivier award winner, Marisa Carnesky is one of the country's leading live art performers and ideas of displacement and dispossession have always featured strongly in her work reflecting her own Jewish migrant background. In her ghost train she draws heavily on the Victorian tradition of the magic show and the fairground to tell the stories of European migrant women.

Felicity Finch goes to the East End to find out more and to take a ride herself.Ìý

Carnesky's Ghost Train will be at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane until the 23 September and you can also see some of Paul Kieve'sÌýmagic in the latest Harry Potter filmÌý
