An NHS project to help people manage their long-term illness
It might be Parkinson's Disease, diabetes, asthma, arthritis or any one of a number of chronic conditions that affect the sufferers day to day lives.Ìý Seventeen and a half million people in this country put up with a long term illness and nothing much can be done for them. Doctors can only advise that they keep on taking the medication.
Two years ago the NHS set up a pilot project called The Expert Patients Programme and it's now to spread across the NHS.Ìý Participants are encouraged to look at different strategies for managing their lives and their chronic illness.
Felicity Finch went to meet three women in Devon who joined a course nearly a year ago.
