Ìý Carmen Friday 22 February 2002 Ìý
Last night saw the opening of a new production of Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall. The libretto of Bizet's opera was translated by Amanda Holden.

Translator of over 40 opera librettos and founder editor of the Viking Penguin Opera Guides, Amanda Holden also wrote the libretto for Mark Anthony Turnage's award winning opera The Silver Tassie, premiered by ENO in 2000.
Martha Kearney is joined by Amanda to discuss the role of words in the world of music and whether it is possible for librettists to put their own stamp on such a well-performed opera.
The New Penguin Opera Guide, edited by Amanda Holden, is published by Penguin Books, ISBN: 0140293124, £30.00
