Ìý Ruth Orkin Monday 14 January 2002 Ìý
Ruth Orkin was the daughter of the silent movie star, Mary Ruby. Growing up in Hollywood in the 1920s and 30s, she began her career as an autograph hunter.

Ruth hit the headlines in 1939 when, at the age of 17, she made a solo bicycle trip from Los Angeles to New York. She's best known now though for her black and white images of America and Europe in the mid 20th century which explore some.
Despite worldwide acclaim for her stills photography, Ruth Orkin is not very well known in this country. Pippa Oldfield is the print manager for the first UK solo show of her work. She explores with Jenni the life of the American photographer.
Ruth Orkin - A Woman of the World Exhibition starts at the Tom Blau Gallery on Thursday, 10th January, and finishes on Saturday, 9th February
