Ìý Jessie Matthews Tuesday 13 November 2001 Ìý
Jessie Matthews was Britain's first international film star. In the mid 1920s and 1930s, she first became a big stage star, enjoying success in revues, most notably Evergreen.

In 1923, she made her film debut in The Beloved Vagabond, and went on to be dubbed The Dancing Divinity with her dancing style.
After the Second World War, her career dwindled, but she re-invented herself in the 1960s, when she became Mrs Dale in the radio soap Mrs Dale's Diary.
Now Jessie Matthews is the subject of a new musical revue called Over My Shoulder. Jenni talks to Anne Rogers, who plays Jessie, and agent and impresario Barrie Stacey.
Over My Shoulder will be at London's Jermyn Street Theatre, London, SW1 from 6th November - 2nd December 2001. Box office: 020 7287 2875.
