As the new season opens at the Royal Opera House, Jenni talks to its Director of Opera, Elaine Padmore, about her life in opera, her role within the hierarchy of the House and her plans to expand the repertoire at Covent Garden.
The following music will be featured:
Placido Domingo singing "La Donna e mobile" from Rigoletto Act III, by Verdi conducted by Carlo Maria Guilini.
One of the arias, Janet Baker, sings Dopo Notte from Ariodante, with the English Chamber Orchestra conducted by Raymond Leppard.
Overture to Carl Nielsen's Maskarade, played by Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra directed by Ulf Schirmer. The Royal Opera House's new season starts on Wednesday 19 September.
