Since the age of four, Ingrid Laubrock has been a musician. She started on the glockenspiel, moved on to the piano, and then in her late teens, took up the saxophone.
She nearly didn't continue after her first saxophone was run over by a bus. But six months later the insurance paid up and she moved from Berlin to London, bringing her new saxophone with her.
Busking lead to gigs, and gigs to albums. Part of her appeal is her openness to a variety of styles including jazz, funk and Brazilian. She performs live on the programme. Ingrid will be performing on 21 September at Pizza Express in Maidstone and at the Vortex in London on 5 October.
CD Some Times is available on Candid label (CCD 79774)
