Ìý Shazia Mirza Friday 10 August 2001 Ìý
Female comedians are rare, Asian women comics even rarer. And there's only one Muslim female stand-up on the comedy circuit - Shazia Mirza.

Her act, based on her own experiences as a Muslim woman in a Western culture, led to a recent attack on her by Muslim men. They called her a disgrace to her religion.
However, she is without doubt one of the hot new comedy talents on the circuit and has just has reached the semi-finals of the So You Think You're Funny? contest at the Edinburgh Fringe.
She tells Martha what it's like on the tough comedy circuit.
