Ìý Christmas Greetings Poem Thursday 12 December 2002 Ìý
Dear distant friends

Surprisingly, we've still got your addresses, So here's a list of all our latest triumphs and successes. This year we've been as busy as a family of beavers (Though they're just furry animals, while we are high achievers.)
We've bought a big new house (my wife corrects me - it's a mansion.) Emily's poems won a prize for imagery and scansion. Jessica got her fellowship and Charles his PhD Which all reflects extremely well on Dorothy and me.
This Christmas it's just us again - the kids have other plans. Charles is at Lucy's parents' house and Jessica's at Dan's. Emily went to Rome and rather drifted out of touch. At her age girls don't seem to like their parents very much!
But none of them are failures and, as long as we can boast, We're happy if they stay away - Christmas is hell to host, Expensive, too. Yes, Dorothy and I are truly glad Our children aren't the sort to want to sponge off Mum and Dad.
We're thinking of you, humble friends, in council flat and hovel. We'll be in touch this time next year, but only if you grovel And say you wish that you were us so much it makes you sick. Happy New Year to all of you.
Love, Dorothy and Nick.
