Robert NapperÌýpleads guilty toÌýmanslaughter

A man who has schizophrenia and a history of violent attacks on young women, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Rachel Nickell, 16 years after killing her on Wimbledon common. 42 year old Robert Napper is to be held indefinitely after admitting to the murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Mr Napper was charged after a DNA breakthrough allowed forensic scientists, to identify microscopic DNA traces found on Miss Nickell’s clothes. Dr Angela Gallop specialises in the scientific investigation of crimes of sex and violence, and is currently Director of LGC Forensics. She joins Jenni to talk about the developments in science which helped identify Rachel Nickell’s killer.
