The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority has agreed to consider whether reimbursement paid to egg donors should be increased. At the moment, women who donate their eggs can receive up to £250 for each course of donation. But with a national shortage of donated eggs -Ìýwhich means some couples go abroad for fertility treatment -Ìýis there a need to increase this amount? Or would this lead to a situation where women are encouraged to sell their eggs for financial gain? Jane is joined by Professor Lisa Jardine, chair ofÌýthe HFEA, and Professor Alison Murdoch, head ofÌýthe Newcastle Fertility Centre.
