The women at the heart of Yorkshire's industrial past.
Sheffield is a city built on steel.ÌýIf you look on the handle of a knife and fork, the stamp ‘Made in Sheffield’ isÌýa hallmark of good quality. Central to the industry were the buffer girls, whose job it was to polish and hone the steel. Women have long been central to Yorkshire industry,Ìýthey also worked as labourers, crane drivers and they made aircraft parts. The memories of those women are being recorded as part of an oral history project and exhibition. Clare Jenkins went along to Sheffield Town Hall to meet some of them ahead of the exhibition opening…
